The Deck is Back In !!!

We finished putting the deck back in today. It has been a long time, but the underneath support is completely rebuilt, and there isn't nearly so much "spongy-ness" and flexibility when you walk out the brand new sliding glass door onto the expanse of wood. While we were re-installing the deck suface, we cut a sort of hatch for access to the underside of the house. There was no way to get underneath, except by going in from the other side of the house and doing a sort of back-crawl between floor joists. Very difficult when trying to bring tools along to do a bit of work under the house (like plumbing). Having an entry on this side is way better!

While we were taking breaks in putting the deck back, I scraped a bit more paint off the siding. The paint looks pretty bad now, and it will look worse this week until I get the rest off... or as much off as will come. There is very little sound paint, but the paint that is sticking to the wood is REALLY stuck on there! I'm hoping to put the primer on either Friday or Saturday, and the color coat early next week - weather holding out.

I took a shot from the inside of the new sliding glass door looking out to the deck. I can't wait for tomorrow morning, when I can go out and have my coffee there.

When I've finished painting the "Weather Side" of the house, I'll go on to work on the inside trim around the door, the floor, and some new weather-tight curtains. All those things can be done when the rains come, though. Right now I need to get on with the paint and the exterior door trim.
