This weekend, actually Thursday and Saturday with a day in between for the kids to attend school and rest up, the SouthWest Conference Swimming Champoinships were held in Eugene. All three of the kids qualified, so it was a busy weekend.
In the finals on Saturday, Alex's relay teams won and qualified for the State Meet in three events, Kaylin qualified in both her individual events and on the Girls 400 Medly relay with Alex. John had a cold and didn't swim as well as he has all season, but he'll go to State as an alternate on the Boys' 200 and 400 relay teams.
The kids are all so genuine, not a spoiled bone in their very fit bodies! Nora has done a superb job of keeping it real with them... they know they are loved and they are not being pushed to be some sort of "freak of nature super-swimmer" kids. All three know that when swimming ceases to be fun, and the social sacrifices they make are no longer worth it to them, they are free to change direction. They know that none of us will love them any less or be disappointed in them. They know they have our support as long as they are happy swimming. Competitive swimming at their level is pretty intense and personally consuming.
