Scaaaary Day... if you are a Movie Fan!

For well over 50 years we thought that my little sister's birthday was "Friday, the 13th of June". It really changed my life (perception of self and reality) when Andy discovered - while surfing the 'net rather than doing homework - that the 13th wasn't Friday the year she was born! That date had been family fact for so long that it had merged into our collective reality. Dr. C. was no longer the "Wild Child" I had imagined her to be. I wonder how many other "facts" handed down in families aren't real, and how much speculation is reality? Revisionist history of a slightly different magnitude.

Erin has signed a contract to teach overseas at an American School next year. Good on you, lass! California's budget reductions make it difficult to retain young, motivated teachers, and she's no exception. Three years of full-time teaching on temporary contracts, and each year the stress of "will I have a job at my school next year?" (or any teaching job at all) tend to color a young teacher's level of commitment to the profession. Andy taught six years on temporary contracts in Seattle before he decided to go abroad to work. He loves teaching overseas; the American School Commmunity is very tight-knit and supportive. I'm glad she will have a two-year hiatus from the rigors of re-hiring. If the posting is not one she ends up enjoying, well... it is only two years, and she'll get to see another part of the world. I will miss my baby, though.
