OK... So What IS That?

Look what is in the back of my truck! I'm pleased as punch... after 40 years of wanting a kiln but having other priorities, I have a kiln.

I found this kiln on CraigsList. And it isn't just any kiln, it is EXACTLY the one I dreamed of having ("If I could have ANY kiln, I'd like a..." sort of dream) , and it was at a price I could afford! I stumbled across this almost brand new, KM1227 top-of-the-line Skutt, cone 10 capable, 9.75 cubic foot beauty!

Look at the inside - pristine! Not a scratch or crack anywhere... looks BRAND NEW. No, it wasn't owned by a little old lady from Pasadena (but now it is... and she's going to fire the daylights out of the poor thing! "Go Granny... Go Granny... Go Granny, GO!" ), it was owned by a couple who made little slip-cast ceramic figurines and only fired to cone o4 - that's about 1800 F. I fire my stoneware at cone 6, that's 2100F, so I'll probably do more damage in six months than they did in the six years they owned it...

Here we are, all set up and ready to fire. Actually this picture was taken while I was doing the initial test-firing... you can see the LED numbers reading 12-something, just above the touch pad. The kiln passed the shakedown with flying colors. So, "you may fire when ready, Gridley".
Welcome home, Gridley... and many happy firings!
