My nephew John is working for us this Summer, helping to repaint the house. I think the green paint was the original color since it seems to be stuck pretty tight to the cedar siding. Johnny is doing a good job of scraping the loose, whitish paint off.
Next couple of weeks John will be "haying" over in Elkton, so we'll have to get along without him for a while... but he says he'll be back!
I'm pretty excited to be getting the house painted, so the siding won't deteriorate and it will look nice again. It really is nice "Ship Lap" siding, milled from good clear cedar... except the back part (the kitchen and batroom are in the "new" part of the house - remodeled in the 1950's) which is modern pine with a similar bevel - but not nearly so weather resistant on its own.
After we get the paint "tight" and ready to prime, we'll replace the windows with double glazed vinyl ones. This should help with heat loss and energy use (resulting in lower power bills!). The we'll put on new trim and paint everything. Nice buttery yellow for the walls, and sagey-teal or white for the trim... haven't decided yet, but I'm leaning toward the grey-green.
For now, though, we'll just keep takin' it off! Fortunately, we don't have a very big house... so this is do-able.
