Big Plans for a Little Building...

This sad little building is a garage on our farm. It was built quite a while ago, when, as Jim says "somebody must have worked at the cedar mill". Construction is all cedar, and the walls are stacked, or "laid-up" two-by-fours (full two inch by four inch boards) of solid cedar. On the outside is cedar "Dolly Varden" siding. The roof is galvanized steel, not aluminum, and doesn't leak - a real plus in Oregon!

After Jim and Kyle finish putting up the carport for the Guests' Trailer (that's like a guest house only cheaper - and nicer!) they will begin transforming the little garage into a real studio for me. I'm pretty excited to have a place to work on my clay stuff.

There is a covered walk from the house, with a door that needs to be replaced, and a wood walkway that will have to be removed so they can lift the building about 30" and put a foundation under the walls. They will pour a concrete slab for the floor, and rebuild the garage door into a wall with a door and a window. We will replace the two windows and insulate the rest of the building later.
