Moving Right Along...

The Funky Chickens are Home!
Kerstin gave the small Chicken quilt to me after the PQG meeting in January. It arrived last week and was only waiting for a rod so I could hang it. This was the second chiken quilt Kerstin made; the first was an opportunity quilt. Guild members made the scrappy chicken blocks from a pattern Kerstin supplied, and she put it together for the raffle. I was crushed that a lady from San Francisco won the quilt instead of me! Having my Chicken quilt up almost makes me forget that my living room has olive-green 60's wood paneling that won't be changing anytime soon.

I wonder why it always seems that time moves so quickly as you get older? Heck, whole comedic routines have been built on the speed-up of time that comes with age. This blog is an example; I haven't posted in a week - not that it is a huge loss in the greater scheme of things, but it indicates to me that I don't have as great an emotional investment in the blog as I had thought. Quite a long time ago a therapist told me that I was often/usually late because I wanted control over something... and that being on time was simply not high on my actual priority list. Hard to say... but it is something I've thought about.

This is the plate I made for Henry, one of the pieces that came out of the 4th Kiln at the Clay Place. He really likes it! I'm glad.

Tomorrow I will go in to load the final (6th) glaze kiln; it will come out on Friday. I only have four pieces in kiln #5. Several pieces from this kiln - the 4th - appeared to be underfired, like there were cold spots in the kiln (or maybe the odd areas may have been caused by the power-out, this was the kiln that didn't fire last week and had to be re-started. I wonder if the kiln's computer chip should have been rebooted and wasn't?).

I'm going to see if Ted will let me stick the three funky pieces back in. Maybe we can just take them up again and they'll be OK. They are pretty useless the way they are - too bad I don't have the SC Engineering Building to drop the offenders from.

I really like the quilt that Kirsten did, you will have to tell her good job for me! I am also glad that Dad likes his plate. I know how picky he is about them! Well I guess that it is time I get by behind in gear about packing, well maybe. I am not excited aobut the prospect of boxing everything I own up and sending it away for months and months until it reaches it's final destination on the Arabian Pen. I love you and will write again soon! E
