My Dad used to call any small dog "Teasel". I wondered just what a Teasel was... guess I thought it meant "small dog" in some other language, since when I was young Dad used to liberaly sprinnkle his speech with German and Spanish words (most of which, now that I think of it, were a bit blue).By the side our road grow some of the most interesting weeds in the PNW. These pods really are Teasel with the purple petals showing through the spikes. I looked the plant up in the PNW Handbook online... great resource, and open to anybody. There is one for weeds, and another for insects, and yet another for plant pests/diseases. Very cool, even for folks not in Washington, Oregon, or BC.
