I ordered a Lello Pro gelato machine before I went down to my Dad's last month... and it arrived in time to make ice cream for 4th of July. Last summer, when I was doing the Baking and Pastry classes at SRJC I used one of these - and I figured that if they could stand up to student use, I'd have little mechanical trouble. I already knew how the machine worked, and although it was pretty expensive... (it is an appliance, not a "small electric", and I'll never get a second one) it makes FANTASTIC ice cream, gelato, and sorbet... know that from experience! I made White Peach Frozen Yoghurt, and then I made French Vanilla Bean to go with the Apple Pie I made for the 4th of July BBQ. Toaday I will make some nice choclate ice cream (good chocolate, of course!) and some Almond Tuile cookies in which to serve it.
Couldn't have a 4th without Apple Pie! It would be

un-American... well, it was a Not-Really-American Apple Pie anyway. I used my friend Joanne's Pasta Frolla for the crust; a very sweet Italian tart crust/cookie dough. The filling was my own, but I started (in 2007) with a French apple tart filling receipe, like a Tarte Tatain. A mix of Granny Smith and Braeburn apples, sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and some tapioca to soak up the apple juice and make it set up into a nice sliceable piece of pie.
Excellent with the Vanilla ice cream.
yummmm this looks good Nan...hugs Khris
